Team challenges are designed to be a challenge and be accessible to all fitness levels. Team Challenges are not just about which team is the fittest. What teams can adapt to adversity, work together, and support each other to get the job done?
Outsiders Barbell Team Challenge - August 2020
In Teams of 5
Event 1:
10 x 1-Minute Working Rounds with 1-Minute Rest Between Rounds
Overhead Holds (Weight x Seconds)
Workout Description:
Each person can use whatever weight they’d like and they can change that weight between rounds.
By the start of the working minutes, any 4 people from your team must have their barbell overhead. If any of the 4 do not have their barbell over their head by the time the working minute starts, the team’s score for that minute is 0.
The 4 people will hold the barbell over their head as long as they want/can. As soon as 1 person puts the bar down, everyone puts their bar down and that is the number of seconds to be used for each individual’s score that round. The maximum number of seconds that can be counted towards your score is 60, the full-length of working rounds.
Your team will have 1 minute between working rounds to regroup, write down individual scores, and figure out who the next 4 people are going to be for the next working minute. Remember, all people must have their barbells overhead before the working minute starts.
Your team will repeat this for a total of 10 working minutes with 1 minute of rest between them. There are no minimums or maximums of how many rounds you must participate in.
Scoring
Individual per Round - Your individual score will be the number of seconds you held a bar over your head multiplied by the weight you used in that round (females divide that score by 0.7). Note: You will need to track your weight and the number of seconds each of your groups hold for each round.
Individual for the Event - Simply add up each of your round scores.
Team Score - Simply add up each Individual’s Event scores.
Note: To make scoring as simple as possible, each individual should write numbers 1-10. Each round they participate in they should write their barbell weight and the number of seconds their team lasted.
Example:
Four people each load their barbell. Male 1 uses 135, Male 2 uses 185 Male 3 used 95, and Female 1 uses 135. The team of 4 all gets their barbell over their head before the start of the working round. Male 2 puts the bar down 20 seconds into the round, so each of the individuals’ scores for that round is 20 seconds multiplied by the weight they used:
Male 1: 20 seconds x 135 = 2,700
Male 2: 20 seconds x 185 = 3,700
Male 3: 20 seconds x 95 = 1,900
Female 1: 20 seconds x 135 / 0.7 = 3,857
TEAM TOTAL SCORE FOR THE ROUND = 12,157
Event 2 - To be done 10 minutes after completion of Event 1.
30-Minute AMRAP
Tasks:
300m KB Farmers Carry (53/35)
400m Bumper Plate Carry (45/25)
800m Run
Workout Description:
As a team, complete as many of the above tasks as possible.
Only one team member per task at a time, so there will always be at least 2 people resting.
The runs are along the routes starting in your bubble and ending in your bubble.
Each person will have their own equipment that stays in their bubbles at all times unless they are doing a task. Therefore, there must always be at least 2 people in bubbles the entire time, so you may not leave your bubble to start a task until the person finishing that task is back inside their bubble with their equipment.
Scoring:
Each individual should track which and how many tasks they complete to combine for a team score after the workout.
Your team’s score will be 1 rep for each of the above tasks that are started within the 30 minute time and completed. As long as you have started a task before the time expires, you may finish that task and receive a rep for your team.
Team Registration
Each team will consist of 5 people.
Your team will work with the coaches to schedule a special time, outside of regular class and open gym times, for your team to meet and complete the team challenge. You will want to schedule at least an hour and a half to meet, strategize, warm-up, and complete the challenge.
